The First Week

The first week progressed smoothly and as planned.

The goal was to understand the fundamentals of ECL, the programming language used to perform operations on an HPCC Systems cluster, and, upon completion of which, to acquaint myself with the Machine Learning bundles shipped with the platform and their use.

With the guidance of my mentors, I began with the essentials. I learned of the many data operations in ECL, most notably – Projections and Transforms, Joins, Roll-ups, and Groupings.

Once I was ready to move forward, I started learning about the Machine learning bundles by first following an example. Then, after I had developed a feel for the entire process, I delved deeper into the documentation and experimented with the framework using small datasets taken from Kaggle.

In all, the first week was a great experience, and I feel equipped moving forward with the project
